CONSERVATION PROGRAM FOR PERSIAN TOAD HEADED LIZARD
|
Conservation Status An existing information on the conservation status of
P. persicus is contradictory (see Agasyan, 1985;
Danielyan, 1987; Darevsky and Orlov, 1988; Ananjeva et al., 2006 and Tadevosyan,
2006 a,b
for review). However, because of increasing land use thought the geographical
range of the lizard, and the fact of extinction of few sub-populations
(Darevsky, 1975; Agasyan, 1985; Danyelyan, 1987; Aslanyan et al. 2003)
there is an assumption, that this lizard can be threatened. Thus there
is a critical need of studies to determine dynamics of P. persicus
at both sub-population and population levels, and to develop it's actual
conservation status. The data on abundance of the lizard for 2005 is available
only for the Goravan Sands Sanctuary (Armenia) (Tadevosyan, 2006 a,b).This lizard under the name of Phrynocephalus horvathi is also listed as a Critically Endangered Species (A2c)in IUCN Red List 2010.
